What I Have Been Up To

It has been a month since my last post - and oh boy what month it has been. Between a family loss and the travel involved; the trials and tribulations of owning a business; and preparing for my first art show I have been meeting myself coming and going. Here is a photo essay of my accomplishments this month.

art show 1
A wall of art. The piece on the bottom left is by my super talented friend, Sony Hartley. I so want to own it!

This is "Rockport." It is a mixed media comprised of freeform crochet, fulled crochet, photography and painting. I am particularly proud of this and it is being submitted to a juried art show in Virginia.

"The Eyes Have It" #1 - this was inspired by the International Freeform group challenge "Through My Eyes." Look in the lower right hand corner and you will see an eye. Try to find the eye in the following 2 pieces:

Purple Fantasy is another mixed media utilizing my photography, freeform crochet and collage.

Red Leaf is a tribute to Georgia O'Keefe. She is my favorite artist and this leaf is based on one of her paintings. I used these leaves to create a scarf that was published on crochetme.com. Once again I utilized my photography and painting along with the crochet to create a one of a kind work of art.

September socks
September socks - 2x2 rib in Noro Kureyon Sock Yarn. I love them even though the yarn was rough on my hands.

As is usually true in the difficult situations in life, I have learned so much about myself during this past month.
I learned that I am an artist. I am not a designer; I am a creator. My soul is stirred by color, texture, and music. I get goosebumps on my arms when something touches me deep inside.
I have learned that it is really, really hard to be the "boss" and there is nothing better than having someone to share that job.
I have learned that those we love live on not only through memories but through the things they leave behind that stimulate those memories.
I have learned that my mother and I can coexist in harmony and that despite the usual mother/daughter issues, I can now be the adult and not loose myself. I also learned that even at 50 there is nothing quite like making your mom proud.

Take It Easy....
