Crochet As Art

I've finished my purple shell and it fits like a glove!  Hyacinth from Queensland is a great cotton yarn.  I really enjoyed using it for this top.

I have been asked to create fiber art for a local art show.  I feel so honored.  The show is being organized by two area artists and they would like fiber art to be included in the next show.  This is an incredible opportunity to showcase crochet as an art form.  I will show (but not sell) the piece I made for the International Freeform Fiberarts 2008 challenge.

Crochet art embodies everything I love - fiber, color, and texture.  I have finally found my crochet voice and artistic medium of choice.

Manchester Bound

One week from now I will be on a plane heading north to New Hampshire.  I'm more excited than I can begin to express.  I wasn't sure I was going to be able to attend, but I worked out the details and am on my way.  Once again I can't stay the whole time, but have already decided that as soon as I get back I will start saving for next year.

This is a sneak peek of something I am working on.  More details to come shortly.
Spring flowers sneak peek

The concert I've waited almost a life time to attend:

The Long Road Out of Eden tour by the Eagles.  They have been my all time favorite band for over 30 years and now I finally get to go see them!  I could be a groupy for these guys.

Best Day Ever

Jammy Girl is now beginning the second of 3 straight days off - and, in typical Jammy Girl fashion, I am in my jammys, coffee in one hand and crochet in the other.

When you think of your best day ever - what comes to mind?  Your wedding day?  The birth of your children?  Getting the job of your dreams or retiring after years of hard work?  All those are admirable and certainly count as best days.  I have had many best days, but yesterday holds a special place in my heart.

I woke up early; had a leisurely breakfast and cup of coffee, and then I went grocery shopping...alone.  I know plenty of women who don't consider that a fabulous way to spend the day, but I so rarely get to shop without being in a rush or having someone tagging along asking questions.  I just wanted to be alone with the food.  All this would have been good enough, but it gets better.  I pulled my hair back in a pony tail and decided to go casual and natural - no makeup, flip flops, t shirt and comfy pants.

After more than an hour of perusing, I put my things on the conveyor belt to make the trip to the cashier.  One of the first items was beer.  I kid you not - the cashier looked at me and asked to see my ID!!!!!!!  I was so flabbergasted I profoundly said, "Really?"  She said, "This is beer isn't it?  You don't look old enough to buy alcohol."  Now if this was a 90 year old woman I would attribute it to poor eyesight or the fact that everyone looks young at that point.  This woman was probably my age or slightly older.  I could have kissed her.  I told her if the real truth is that she has to card everyone, just keep that to herself I am reveling in the moment. The way she looked at me indicated she thought I might have sampled the goods before paying for them.

I'm still basking in the after glow of the moment, but now for crochet content.

The swatches are finished and blocked for a proposal I'm sending off on Monday.  Crocheters, you need to check out Hempathy by Elsbeth Lavold.  This is a great yarn for us.  Nice crisp stitch definition and sport weight so it is perfect for light, drapey fabrics, and the price is right.

I know Amylovie is shaking her head in disbelief but I joined a KAL/CAL yesterday.  This one is organized by Yarn Thing and the Crochet Liberation Front on Ravelry.  I am jazzed.  The idea is that for summer everyone can knit or crochet purses or socks, or both.  You choose your own pattern, project or technique, then work along with others, posting pictures and talking about the project.  There will even be swag!  I will be using this Trekking and crocheting my first pair of socks using either the Cassie O'Peah or the Ultimate Sock pattern.

Jammy Girl/Hip Cat is signing off for another day of rest, relaxation and fun.  Patti (TinkersUntie) simply can't believe that on my days off I want anything to do with yarn, needles or hooks.  I love being Hip Cat on my days off from Yarntopia.  The designing, sketching, and swatching energize me.  Now, for the discipline to take all this to the next level - when that happens, watch out world!

Until next time, Take It Easy (TIE) and "don't let the sound of your own brain make you crazy (from the 'Tao of the Eagles' and my personal life motto)."
