Overwhelmed by Yarn

I never thought that I would feel overwhelmed by one of the things I love most in the world - yarn. Everywhere I turn in my life I am confronted by yarn. Piles and piles of yarn everywhere. It reached epidemic porportions last week and I finally had to take drastic steps to bring a sense of order to some area of my life. I started by straightening up my freeform stash of yarn. These are all the bits and pieces of left over yarn from the shop that I will use "one day" in some yet to be determined project. I organized them by color and put them in clear plastic containers and glass jars. I then sorted through all the projects I have in the works (I can't even count how many their are)and organized and prioritized them.

Now it is time to do the same at the store. Amy and I are in the processes of reorganizing and putting out the spring yarn. Hopefully this will clear out the back room which is now one big yarn warehouse.

I don't know about you but when I get overwhelmed by too much stuff I just shut down and become even less productive. Sadly the decreased productivity increases the sense of being overwhelmed...and, well, you get the picture. I am continuing to take baby steps to regain control over something in my life. I now have a list of things that need to get done and the order in which I deem them important. I need to do the same with my projects so that I can gain satisfaction when I cross something off the list.

I have very little finished but I did manage to make the Fat Bottom Purse in a couple of days. This bag is cute and was fun to make. I used Nashua Creative Focus cotton and had a blast. Our little Happy Hooker Crochet A Long group is working on this bag in March and will be having free choice in April.
Since I can't remember what else I have blogged about recently I am going quit while I am ahead.

Time Marches On...Pun Intended

I am one of those unique people who love the change from daylight savings time to standard time in the fall. It reminds me that all the things I love about fall are coming around again - football is in full gear, the hope of cold weather, days that are shorter, not to mention an extra hour of sleep. So, here we are now in March and already it is time for the clocks to spring forward. I am enjoying daylight at 6:30 a.m. and am not ready to give that up so that it can be daylight at 8:00 p.m. And I am certainly not ready for an hour less sleep this weekend. But, as with so many things in life, I have no control over this so it is a waste of time and energy to complain.

Continuing with the time theme, this is a very important time for Yarntopia. We will be one on April 3rd and Amy and I have been reminiscing about what we were doing one year ago. We were knee deep in boxes, paint, yarn and IKEA shelves. We were working nonstop and anxious about what waited for us as we launched Yarntopia. Now, one year later we are proud to say that Yarntopia is thriving and growing; constantly looking for new ways to inspire your creativity. It is very humbling and also quite exciting to be looking back on the year. Be sure to plan on joining us on March 31st for our official celebration!

Now, I do have crochet to post. Many of you have already seen these pics as I posted them on the Yahoo! Happy Hooker CAL page. I finished the Fat Bottom Bag. It is a cool bag, but it definitely needs a magnetic closure.

Enjoy the spring weather if you have it; if not - bundle up and stay warm til spring arrives at your house too.

Sweet Pea

Sweet Pea is finished and I love it. I didn't think I would ever get it done, but once I did and blocked it the result is great.
Pattern: Sweet Pea Shawl from The Happy Hooker
Yarn: Cotton Twist by Berroco
Now on to Fat Bottom Bag the CAL project for March. I finally decided on Creative Focus Cotton by Nashua in a rich rasberry red.
